Filled Halloween Cupcakes

halloween filled cupcakes

Some of the simplest yet most surprising sweets are the ones where you take an everyday store bought cake mix and add a little flavor of your own. And that’s what we’ll be doing here. Ever wondered how the filling gets in the Twinkie? Me too, but I can’t help you. Not completely off subject though, we CAN put a twist onĀ  a basic cake mix and create your own little cupcake creation by adding a filling to the center.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • box of cake mix
  • cup of frosting
  • decorations

Let’s Get Baking

  1. Prepare and bake your cake mix in individual cupcakes as directed on the box.
  2. Let cupcakes cool for at least 20 minutes.
  3. With a serrated knife, cut at an angle towards the center of a cupcake almost as if you’re carving the top off a pumpkin.
  4. Remove excess cake from the lid and put it aside.
  5. Fill the center hole of your cupcake with your favorite frosting.
  6. Replace the lid, frost and decorate.

Alternative filling ideas!

  • strawberry jam in muffins
  • melted milk chocolate in cupcakes
  • flavored pudding
  • jello squares
  • mini marshmallows

They look delicious! I bet mini marshmallows would be great in chocolate cupcakes. I just might have to try them later today!

LOL At least you can send them! We got a letter from Mattison’s school saying no sweets for birthdays and holiday parties.

What a great idea! I love using cake mix for fast easy treats. Here’s one I posted just last week for Halloween Cookie Sandwiches! http://confessions-stayathomemom.blogspot.com/2009/10/halloween-cookie-sandwiches.html

I have never thought of doing that. I have a couple daycare kiddos who only eat the icing and I bet they would love it with more icing, just what kids need more of…sugar.

That was a fabulous tutorial. They look SO good, and I love how it’s a different spin on traditional cupcakes. We have a family get together tomorrow and I think I’m going to pick up a cake mix. Thanks for the idea.

Yay, I love your cupcakes!
Super cute! I actually do this as well! Sometimes getting out the piping bag and filler tip is a PITB, very easy to add delicious fillings to cupcakes! :D
